The Petrol Pump Challange!

I turns out that the petrol pump used on the Cinq is not an easy thing to find and replace!

I don’t know if Fiat only used this setup on the Cinq and Sie as I was not able to find a new one and it seems the setup is not used on other Fiat models of the same year. The lower bowl that holds the pump is offset from the top to allow the fuel sender to fit next to it.

I could find quite a few secondhand ones but nothing new, so it was time for a little bit of creative thinking!

The original one was so gunged up and rusty that it was not something I was going to be able to just clean up and fit and with a secondhand one you never know just how good it will be or how long it will last.

So the solution was to buy a new Ridex pump (1382F0127) for a Panda as the lower part was the same sort of setup as the original Cinq pump and then use the top and metal hanger brackets from the old pump and fit these to the lower section of the new pump and then use have a replacement pump 🙂

As you can see in the pics below the setup was perfect. (Old V New)

And it fits and works perfectly 🙂 Luckily the fuel sender all worked ok after it took it apart and gave it a good clean as they seem impossible to get new and the gasket where the fuel unit fits into the tank was also something you couldn’t get any more so I bought some fuel-grade rubber and copied the old one.
