This is more of a note to myself and might be useful for anyone else searching for the problem when your Cinq won’t start but turns over and you have no fuel pump running or CODE light showing.
After messing about trying to fix the problems i have had with the emissions on the Cinq, i was trying to clear the ECU memory so it would store the new base settings and hopefully cure the issue i seemed to be getting, where the Multiecuscan would show an intermittent TPS, i had taken the battery leads off overnight, taken off and re-fitted all the earth leads, so it would lose its memory as reading up it stores a base setting when the car initially runs and uses this and i wanted it to store a new default TPS settings.
So after doing this, the car would turn over but there was no fuel pump running, no CODE light and no blown fuses that i could see. So i hooked up the Multiecuscan and it showed an error of CODE not received??
Obviously the ECU is working, but what else could be wrong? I checked all the fuses, the inertia switch under the dash, all was fine. After a bit of reading, it seemed that as there was no CODE light and the ECU was saying it was not receiving the CODE signal, it could only be the CODE immobiliser under the dash not sending the message.
Reading up the info seemed to suggest it got its power from the same circuit as the indicators and i should check this 7.5 fuse, that was fine, but while i was checking everything i noticed a relay next to the main fuse box, and tucked next to that was a fuse holder with a 7.5 fuse, which was blown, so i changed this, put the battery leads back on, turned the key, CODE light came on and went off, the fuel pump ran and the little Cinq fired up.
Im not sure if this setup is the same for all Cinq’s, but if you have a 1997 Sporting and you are facing the same issue, see if you can find this little fuse tucked away by the main fuse box! I had all sorts of things i was thinking of changing to see if i could fix it and im no glad i found this fuse, as it saved me lots of time and money!
